Changing Your Hostname

If you want to use DHCP, you are required to set your computer hostname to your NCI-Frederick of NIH Property ID Number.

On Windows machines, this is done via the Control Panel.

Open your Control Panel from the Start Menu.

Double click the icon for System, which is circled in red in the example shown to the left.

In the System Properties dialog, click the Computer Name tab, which is marked with an orange line in the example.

Then click the Change... button, which is circled in red.

The Computer Name Changes dialog appears. In the textbox, circled in red, you will need to delete the current entry and replace it with your property number.

You will find your property number on the Property tag located on the front of your computer.

Please use the number from the front of your actual computer. Do NOT use the property number from the monitor.

Your domain/workgroup setting will need to be appropriate for your workarea. This should already be configured and should not need to be changed.

Click OK to finish.
